We’ll start our selection of free resources with one of the most surprising and entertaining. Created by Amazon and the National Cybersecurity alliance, Protect & Connect is a series of short films, the first of which “Train to be an Internet Bodyguard” stars Michael B Jordan and Tessa Thompson as they protect a family from attack by cybercriminals. Aside from the main film, each of the other films provide useful tips on protecting yourself online, and at the end there is an optional quiz and a link to Amazon’s free Cybersecurity Awareness Training.
For users who hear the word “training” and audibly groan, this is a much-needed change of pace. The situations in the videos are goofy and light-hearted, but present useful, real-world lessons that avoid an excess of technical jargon. While I wouldn’t recommend this as your only resource for learning, it is an excellent starting point for getting users to be more aware of steps they can take to be more secure, both at work and at home.

Speaking of the National Cybersecurity Alliance, their site contains a whole host of different, very useful articles on things such as “Reporting Cybercrime”, “How to Tell if your computer has a virus and what to do about it” and “Is working on your smartphone a risky business or are you cybersecure?”. Each of the articles typically can be read in less than 15 minutes and touch upon an important and useful topic for users to keep themselves safe from cybercriminals, or if it’s already too late what to do if a cybercriminal has already struck.
Personally, I was impressed with the content I found here. As someone who spends a lot of time studying information security and cybersecurity, there were resources here that I even found useful. “Reporting Cybercrime” is an article that every person should have bookmarked, as it not only tells you what to do but more importantly who to reach out to. The other articles are well written and divided up into different groups based on content, so finding the exact kind of subject matter you want is a snap.

With the rise of AI and ever more sophisticated methods being utilized by cybercriminals, keeping yourself and your users educated has never been more important than it is now. The resources presented above are an excellent starting point for getting users trained and aware of the threats out there.
